Homecoming - October 11, 2008

This year's Homecoming Week will be Sunday, October 5 - Saturday, October 11, culminating with the Saturday Homecoming football game versus Nebraska. For specific details about the 2008 Homecoming Week, CLICK HERE.

Homecoming is an exciting week full of activities for Texas Tech alumni and students. Such activities include a bonfire, parade, float competitions, open houses, award programs, and of course, the homecoming football game. Another favorite event, which has been around since 1954, is the election of the homecoming queen.

Homecoming also is a busy time for the Texas Tech Alumni Association. On Friday of Homecoming Week, the association hosts the Top Techsan Luncheon, which recognizes several Texas Tech staff members. Five honorees receive a plaque and a cash award of $500 during the presentations.

Then on Friday evening, the association hosts A Matador Evening at at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

Each year during the Scholarship Awards Dinner, the Lauro F. Cavazos Award is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions to the university through their individual efforts or financial support. This year's recipients are to be announced.

Also presented during the event is the Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes outstanding service rendered to the Alumni Association or Texas Tech University. The Texas Tech Alumni Association will announce the recipient of the award that evening.
